Sanctuary Soil red wriggler worms are fed only the finest natural ingredients to ensure the finest worm castings.  Our worm castings are pure, odor free, chemical free and safe for any organic garden.

Worm castings are a natural fertilizer produced by earth worms.  When an earth worm eats organic matter, the digestive tract actually changes that matter both physically and chemically.  The waste product is a powerful, all natural plant food called castings.  Castings are proven to increase plant growth and promote a healthy soil environment for the plant’s root system.

Each day, a red wriggler worm can eat half its weight in food.  After about four months, the worms will have chewed their way through most of the compost, nutrient amendments and the bedding material, leaving behind a layer full of nutrient-rich castings. Once harvested, the castings are dark and crumbly and smell like good, rich soil. High in nitrogen and phosphorus and a great source of organic matter, castings are wonderful additions to potting mixes for seeds, transplants, or house plants. Castings can also be used like compost in vegetable and flower beds, as a cover soil for seed beds, and as a top-dressing for perennials.

We include our worm castings in all out soil mixes, such as Empire Builder.  Empire Builder contains 20% worm castings, ensuring a wonderful, nutrient rich soil blend.  Although not necessary, plants can be safely grown in 100% worm castings!  Castings absorb water so you don’t have to water as frequently.  The cylindrical shape of the casting helps to keep the soil loose allowing oxygen to penetrate into the soil and permeate the root system.

Worm castings can be used by any type of gardener for any type of vegetation, even hydroponic gardens.
